SENDING FIBRE SAMPLES FROM OUTSIDE AUSTRALIA
AAFT provide GIFT testing and consultancy services to clients on a worldwide basis. When preparing and submitting samples from outside Australia, we need to ensure Australia’s quarantine standards are complied with as well as ensuring the samples and accompanying information meet the usual requirements for GIFT testing. Collecting Samples To enable GIFT PLUS testing, we require one fibre sample from each of the three sample sites.
Midside : Identify an imaginary line midway between the hind and fore leg, then move halfway down the line to the centre of the body.
Australia has conditions on the entry of raw fibre samples. In the main, the samples need to be free of contaminants such as seeds, faeces and vegetation.
To meet current conditions, all samples should be shaken for about 5 to 10 seconds in warm water with laundry detergent, then rinsed in clear warm water. A completed Import Declaration (attached) should be included with the samples. Bagging Samples Samples should be placed in individual paper or plastic bags with alpaca’s name and/or number. Details that should also be added are sex, date of birth, age when sample was taken and growth (in months) of sample. Other details might include sire and dam. Breeder Details Contact (incl email address) and trading details of breeder should be included with the samples. Please use attached ‘GIFT Test Request’ form Sending
